2018 Subaru Outback VS Competitors

The 2018 Subaru Outback is classified as a crossover SUV, but it is far more than that. It has the capability for occasional off-roading that many other crossovers can't match. It also offers standard all-wheel drive, something few other SUVs offer except as an option. For its size it has excellent ground clearance and its 2.5 liter 4-cylinder BOXSTER® engine is powerful yet efficient. There is also a 3.6 liter flat-six engine option but there is a fuel efficiency penalty for the larger displacement. The Outback uses a continuously variable transmission (CVT) to further tweak the efficiency rating.

There are four model trims available for the 2018 Outback; Base, Premium, Limited, and Touring. The Outback handles more like a luxury sedan than a crossover with its standard torque vectoring. Owners enjoy a quality interior in base cloth, or leather-trimmed seating on higher trim levels. The base infotainment system is a 6.5-inch color system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and upgrades to an 8.0-inch system with available navigation. The Outback also benefits from efforts to reduce wind and road noise with the addition of acoustic materials, redesigned exterior mirrors, and use of more laminated window glass.

The interior of the 2018 Outback is comfortable and will surprise you with its luxury. The front seats are well supported with good bolsters to keep you in place during cornering. Higher trims offer power driver's and front passenger's seats. The Outback offers more than 35 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seats up and more than 73 cubic feet with the seats folded down. A lower liftover height than many competitors makes it easy to load and retrieve cargo from the rear tailgate. Soft touch materials are used throughout the cabin for a quality look and feel.

Safety is a big deal with Subaru, and the Outback includes a lot of standard and available safety features. Standard features include the usual airbags, rearview camera, stability control, and antilock brakes. Except on the base trim, Subaru EyeSight is available or standard and includes features such as blind spot monitoring, active lane control, automatic high beam headlights, adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, pre-collision braking, and pre-collision throttle management to reduce engine power. The forward-facing cameras are placed inside the windshield which reduces the possibility of damage from debris or a forward collision.

When you are ready for a crossover SUV that is much more, including a capable light off-road vehicle, come to Colonial Subaru and choose your favorite 2018 Subaru Outback. Then go out and enjoy the road in this comfortable and efficient crossover.
