Outback Performance

The Outback comes standard with a 2.5-liter Subaru Boxer four-cylinder engine that produces 182 horsepower and 176 pound-feet of torque. An available turbocharged 2.4-liter Subaru Boxer four-cylinder engine produces 260 horsepower and 277 pound-feet of torque. All Outback models come standard with a continuously variable transmission and Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive.

Outback Design

The Outback combines the spaciousness of a wagon with the versatility of an SUV. The sturdy exterior includes standard roof rails with integrated crossbars. Inside the cabin, a standard passenger volume of 109 cubic feet lets up to five people stretch out and get comfortable. When you need to transport your belongings, you can use 32.6 cubic feet of cargo volume behind the rear seats and 75.6 cubic feet with the rear seats folded down.

Outback Trim Levels

There are nine Outback trims to choose from:

  • Base: The base trim includes 17-inch alloy wheels, automatic climate control, dual seven-inch touchscreens, and a suite of safety features.
  • Premium: Adds a power-adjustable driver's seat, dual-zone automatic climate control, and an 11.6-inch infotainment touchscreen,
  • Onyx Edition: Adds 18-inch wheels, a hands-free liftgate, a 12-speaker Harmon Kardon premium audio system, and additional safety features.


  • Limited: Adds driver's seat memory, a power-adjustable front passenger seat, and leather upholstery.
  • Touring: Adds a sunroof, a heated steering wheel, ventilated front seats, and a front-view camera.
  • Wilderness: An off-roading trim with all-terrain tires, a front skid plate, a 260-horsepower engine, an upgraded roof rack with a 700-pound capacity while parked, and water-repellant upholstery.
  • Onyx Edition XT, Limited XT, and Touring XT: Add the 260-horsepower engine to the feature sets of their respective base trims.
